Playdates & Activities - Week of October 1

Hi Friends,

It's a pretty busy week for us moms, lots of good opportunities to connect and make new friends!  We also added a "Upcoming Events" section to this blog (on the left) so you can see what's coming in the weeks ahead and mark your calendars accordingly.  :)

Monday, October 1 - Book Babies @ Tigard Library
Ages 0-12 months
Mondays, 10:15 – 10:45 a.m.
Babies and their grown-ups are invited to share nursery rhymes, finger plays, songs and a simple book while making new friends and developing early literacy skills! Stay and play after the program.

Karyn & JT are going to start going to this on a weekly basis, hope those of you with little babies (under 1 year) can join us!

Wednesday, October 3 - Playdate @ the Park
This week we'll be taking advantage of the nice weather (while we can) and hitting up Greenway Park in Tigard/Beaverton for our playdate.  Feel free to meet up at 9 if you'd like to go for a power walk or 10:00 if you just want to play at the park.  Greenway Park is a very long park on the Fanno Creek trail so here are some specific directions as to where we'll be:

9:00 meeting spot (for power walkers):
Park on Springwood Dr. near Scholls Ferry and we'll hit up the walking trail. (Springwood intersects Scholls Ferry near "Big Red's Western Restaurant")

10:00 meeting spot (for play date):
Park on Springwood Dr. (see directions above) and walk north on the trail to the first playground (the playground backs up to the shopping center with Big Red's and Portland Running Company.  If you can't find us, just text or call Karyn @ 805.340.6two32

Friday, October 5 - Workout Morning
This week we'll also be gathering at Colossae Church  to do the 30 Day Shred DVD this Friday at 9:00 am.

12176 SW Garden Place
Tigard, OR 97223
Bring your kiddos to play while we do a quick workout for 30 minutes.

Saturday, October 6 - Girls Game Night
Ladies! Let's get together to share some snacks, chat, play some games and hopefully get to know somebody new within our church. We will be meeting this Saturday, October 6th at 7:30 at the church. Please bring a goodie/snack or to share as we gather. We will have some coffee and tea available as well. The heart behind this is simply to get to know each other better as our church body grows and expands.

One challenge I would like to put out there: before you attend, check your schedule for the follow

ing week and have some times in mind that you might be able to meet up with somebody new that you meet at the event. I think it's an easy way to make sure we come away feeling a little more connected!

Please feel free to invite anyone whose name I may have missed as I definitely don't know everyone at Colossae!

If you have questions, feel free to contact Kristen Helton at
503.505.3113 or email me at kristenmhelton@gmail.com

Hope to see you at some point this week!

Women's & Children's Clothing Swap TOMORROW! (Monday, 09/17/12)

Hi Everyone:
We will have our all size swap this Monday, Sept. 17th at 7pm sharp. Please get there at least 10 min's early to ensure we can start in a timely manner. Please spread the word and if people are interested, have them email me so I can add them to the list! All unswappedclothes will go to another great organization this month; Cindy will share on Monday.

There will also be a kids clothing swap this month following the women's swap if you would like to participate in both! If you are interested in the kids clothing swap, please view the attached flyer for more details. We try to have a kids swap 3-4 times a year. The next one will most likely be January and then April or May.

See info. below if this is your first swap!
Bring clothes/shoes/accessories that you no longer love but are still clean and in good condition to our Sept. swap

What: All size women's/teens clothing swap (it's FREE!)
When: Monday Sept 17th at 7pm (Always the 3rd Monday of every month)
Where: Colossae Church, located in Park 217, you'll see a blue sign outfront that say's "Colossae". Address is 12176 SW Garden Pl, Tigard, OR 97223.

What to bring: Bring only CLEAN womens clothing - thanks for washing up everything you bring:). Also bring any accessories, shoes, purses, and other wearable items. Bring bags to take your new clothes home with you.

The idea behind the Swap is to offer and get free clothes, forever. No money changes hands with these clothes ~ even if you get them home and decide they aren't quite `you', we ask that you GIVE them away to someone. Leftovers from the swap will be donated to a local charity. We'll also be taking men's clothes this month if you have any to donate.

1. Wash all items before bringing to the swap. Check the pockets for tissues, gum, and money.
2. We are a clothing swap, not fabric swap, so the bottoms of pant legs or sweaters with a sleeve missing are not usable for us regular people. Also, please no household items.
3. People who've been to swaps before know this, but thought I'd bring it up for newbies...No cheating! No taking, or hiding, or stuffing things into your sack before we officially start! It only makes it fair for all of us. And NOHOARDING once the swap begins, let's be fair to everyone who is there.
4. Wear a swim suit or spandex workout clothes under your street clothes when you swap. Try stuff on before you take it home. See how great you look in a mirror (we'll have at least 3 available for you). If it doesn't fit, throw it back into the pile so someone else can see if it fits them.
5. It's fun to see people smile as they try on something you brought, or see the encouragement of 'that looks great on you' and 'here are some jeans your size'. You'll be able to try new fashions you'd never dream to try on in a store
6. All remainders will be donated to a non-profit that will give the items away for FREE:)
7. Please do NOT bring: children's clothes, or clothes that are stained/dirty/smelly/not wearable. If you are participating in the kids swap, then bring your children's clothes and thatswap will take place in a separate area after the women's swap.
Go to swappositive.wordpress.com to find details on the children's clothing swap , different size swap, or other swap venues taking place.

If this is your first swap, Here's how a Swap works...
Shoes, purses, accessories, and jewelry will be in a separate pile.

All of the clothes will be kept in bags while we wait. Shoes and accessories can go into a separate pile...but no pre-swapping please. When everyone is present, the swap coordinator will give the go-ahead and we'll empty bags into piles on the floor. After you empty your bags, please step back until everything is out and ready. Things in the middle of the room in rows are free. Items in little piles around the room, against the walls in bags, or on chairs are someones' stash.

When everything is in piles, the swap coordinator will say, "Go!" And we'll all start at the same time. That way everyone has the same opportunity to find new clothes.

Take what looks good to you, gather it into your pile, then try them on. Mirrors are available. If they aren't quite `you', throw them back into the pile for someone
else to enjoy.

Please support our mission by enjoying the swap as a place to get free stuff, and if you part with your new-to-you swap items, we ask that YOU do it in a free way too!

For further information, go to the swap website, swappositive.wordpress.com
Please bring friends and spread the word; the more the merrier and more clothes to swap! No need to RSVP, we currently have the space!
